Sudden bereavement of a loving, good husband brings indescribable stress, and a feeling of disorientation, then distress at the thought of so much to do, accompanied by a wave of inability to cope. If that were not enough, in too many cases financial problems have to be faced, adding to aloneness and uncertainty. Even when provision is adequate, the debilitating effect of the overwhelming loss takes its toll. We should not forget that believers sorrow, but their sorrow is not like that of the unbeliever, without hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13 ).
Recently I was moved by the obvious way in which a sister in Christ in her bereavement, was showing in word and behaviour, incredible courage and strength - the source could only be the Lord. This she softly affirmed in unequivocal testimony. I felt constrained to tell her that the Lord in His word had precious promises for godly widows.
This study highlights what I passed on to her. I now share these truths for your attention and use.
