The book of Leviticus closes with Leviticus 26:46. Chapter 27 is a supplement. There is not the slightest reason to doubt that it was added by Moses himself.
Personal commitment in giving ourselves or loved ones to God's service must be treated seriously, is the teaching of Leviticus 27:1-8. When we cannot do what we promise personally, we can give financially to support others to do the work. Property we promise, if not given outright, should be replaced to the Lord in its monetary value (Leviticus 27:13-25 ). We should say what we mean and mean what we say. Our giving to the Lord must be according to the giving of our words, and the requirements of God's Word. We are to give a fixed portion of our income to the Lord.
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come."
(Also 2 Corinthians 8:7-9 ).
The subject of vows might be summarised in the words of the preacher:
Ecclesiastes 5:2-5 "Do not be rash with your mouth, and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; therefore let your words be few. For a dream comes through much activity, and a fool's voice is known by his many words. When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; for He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed - Better not to vow than to vow and not pay."
We should be very careful not to make foolish promises to God in our service to Him.
Leviticus 27:34 "These are the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel on Mount Sinai."
Law was God's way of teaching His people the way they should live in relationship to Him. Our relationship with Him is deepened through commitment of our life and lip to His Word.
