Christ's Sacrifice Brings Privileges (Hebrews 10:19-21)

Privileged Access Into God's Immediate Presence

Hebrews 10:19 "Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,"

Under the old order the worshipper could not pass into the shekinah presence of God in the holiest. He could only send a priest in as his representative. Now the believer can confidently enjoy God's immediate presence. The Hebrew writer explains the way and means of this confident, continual access.

Hebrews 10:20 "by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,"

The new way is Christ "the way". His precious blood qualifies our entrance. The living way is the new life in the Spirit - our spirits indwelt by God.

Isaiah 57:15 "For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones."

Our regenerated human spirit indwelt by the Holy Spirit puts us in touch with God in the Holiest of all. It is living because as we set our spirits free to consciously experience God's immediacy, His life permeates our whole personality, imparting holy boldness to all our endeavours.

Privileged to Have A Competent Advocate in Our High Priest

Hebrews 10:21 "and having a High Priest over the house of God,"

Christ Jesus is our living advocate in the Holiest, who is in true sympathy with us (Hebrews 4:15- 16 ). He is ever available to us, He is actively concerned for each member of the household of God. We are indeed His house (Hebrews 3:6 ).

  QUESTIONS FOR GROUP INTERACTION

  1. How do you experience the immediate presence of God (Hebrews 10:19 )?

  2. Do you experience the new and living way because your human spirit is indwelt by the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 10:20; Isaiah 57:15 )?
