Earthly leaders are subject to change. They come and they go. In glorious contrast Jesus Christ never
changes, and He is always with us and will not forsake us (Matthew 28:20 ). God the Son is
unchanging. He, as the Son given (Isaiah 9:6 ), was called Jesus (Matthew 1:21 ). The
Jesus of yesterday remains the same today, and will never be different from what He was. As the angels
said, "this same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come ..." (Acts 1:11 ). We
wait for the coming of this same unchanging Jesus who remains the same throughout the millenniums
and forever.
The Old Testament Scriptures are quoted in the epistle to the Hebrews in supporting the truth of the
immutable Christ.
God the Father addresses God the Son as Lord, that is, by the name of YAHWEH (Hebrews 1:10
). The Lord Jesus announces Himself as the eternal and unchanging.
He is the Creator, He will change the universe, but He Himself will not change. His years will not fail. He
spans time and eternity. His indescribable excellence will never be exhausted.
