2. GOD THE SON IS UNCHANGING

A LEADING QUESTION

2.1. IS CHRIST JESUS PRESENTED BY SCRIPTURE TO BE ETERNAL AND UNCHANGING?

A KEY SCRIPTURE

Hebrews 13:8 "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." (NKJV)

ARRIVING AT AN ANSWER

Earthly leaders are subject to change. They come and they go. In glorious contrast Jesus Christ never changes, and He is always with us and will not forsake us (Matthew 28:20 ). God the Son is unchanging. He, as the Son given (Isaiah 9:6 ), was called Jesus (Matthew 1:21 ). The Jesus of yesterday remains the same today, and will never be different from what He was. As the angels said, "this same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come ..." (Acts 1:11 ). We wait for the coming of this same unchanging Jesus who remains the same throughout the millenniums and forever.

The Old Testament Scriptures are quoted in the epistle to the Hebrews in supporting the truth of the immutable Christ.

Hebrews 1:10-12 "And: 'You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. 11 They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; 12 Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.'" (NKJV)

God the Father addresses God the Son as Lord, that is, by the name of YAHWEH (Hebrews 1:10 ). The Lord Jesus announces Himself as the eternal and unchanging.

Revelation 1:8 "'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,' says the Lord, 'who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.'" (NKJV)

He is the Creator, He will change the universe, but He Himself will not change. His years will not fail. He spans time and eternity. His indescribable excellence will never be exhausted.
