4.2.4. A PERSON'S LOYALTY IN SPECIAL CONDUCT (Exodus 22:18 - 23:35)

Loyal in doing away with practicing of sorcery

(Exodus 22:18 ). This law brings out the wickedness of spiritualism and occult, evil practices in the sight of God.

Loyalty in doing away with unnatural sexual sins

(Exodus 22:19 ). This law is a commentary on corruption through sin.

Loyalty to the one and only true God

(Exodus 22:20 ). God sets the highest value of all on relationship with Himself and faithfulness to Him.

Loyalty in acceptance of and proper treatment of strangers

(Exodus 22:21 ). Our love is to abound to all (1 Thessalonians 3:12 ).

Loyal in caring for widows and the fatherless

(Exodus 22:22-24 ).

Loyal in handling money in a Godly way

(Exodus 22:25-27 ). God is against extracting usury or excessive interest in our dealings with the poor and needy and our fellow saints.

Loyal in reverence to God and respect for rulers

(Exodus 22:28 ). It is wrong for Christians to curse anybody. Relationship to government is taught in (Romans 13:1-14 ). We are to value those who labour among us and admonish us. (1 Thessalonians 5:12 ).

Loyal in our duty to God

(Exodus 22:29-31 ). What is His should receive first attention of payment, and we must not assimilate spiritually anything unclean.

Loyalty in proper care and conduct to man and animals

(Exodus 23:1-9 ).

Loyalty in keeping God-required sabbatical year and weekly Sabbath would bring God's blessing to Israel

(Exodus 23:10-19 ). Trust and obedience to God's Word ensures blessing for us.

Loyalty would ensure the special presence of the Lord and fulfillment of their promised prospect ahead

(Exodus 23:20-33; Matthew 25:23 ).

  1. Do you by your conduct show your special loyalty to the Lord?

  2. Are you shocked by Exodus 22:19, as it reveals the terrible corruption through sin?

  3. In which way could you betray your relationship and faithfulness to God?

  4. Have you considered that it could be disloyalty to God to mistreat or oppress a stranger (Exodus 22:21 )?

  5. Can God depend on your faithfulness towards widows and the fatherless within your reach (Exodus 22:22 )?

  6. While accepting that lending money as a commercial transaction is an accepted, sound practice, do you know of usury and abusive practices against others?

  7. Does your loyalty to God involve you in respectful relationship with those in authority (Exodus 22:28 )?

  8. Are you in faithfulness putting God's interests first in your giving (Exodus 22:29-31 )?

  9. Because of loyalty to God do you refuse to be involved in passing on a false report (Exodus 23:1 )?

  10. Do you believe it is disloyalty to God to be involved with a crowd in violent demonstrations (Exodus 23:2 )?

  11. Would your walk with God permit you to show partiality in judgment of another (Exodus 23:3 )?

  12. Having been delivered from so much through the mercy and compassion of the Lord, should this motivate you to exercising practical compassion towards others (Exodus 23:9 )?

  13. While still in the wilderness God gave Israel instructions concerning the care of the land to ensure good harvests. Do you appreciate that while you were still in the wilderness of sin, the Lord planned for you to be fruitful in good works (Exodus 23:10-11; Ephesians 2:8-10 )?

  14. Do you out of faithfulness to the Lord, when you gather with the Lord's people, endeavour never to come before Him empty (Exodus 23:15 )?

  15. What promises and warnings can you appropriate and heed in Exodus 23:20-23?
