Exodus 21:2 "If you buy a Hebrew servant ..."
(Exodus 21:1-6 ). This regulation for a Hebrew sold into servitude usually to pay a debt, presents a beautiful picture of a love slave of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:1 "Paul and Timothy, servants of Jesus Christ."
This Greek word used by Paul was 'doulos', meaning slaves - he and Timothy were love slaves of Jesus Christ.
If you buy (Exodus 21:2 ). So Christ's servants are bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20 ), and at what a price! (1 Peter 1:19 ). He shall serve six years. (Exodus 21:2 ).
1 Corinthians 6:20 "... glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's."
Romans 6:18 "And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness."
Exodus 21:2 "... he shall serve six years; and in the seventh he shall go out free and pay nothing."
The yoke of the Master is so light (Matthew 11:29 ).
Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage."
(Exodus 21:3-5 ). I will not go out free (Exodus 21:5 ). Attached to the Master by ties of love (John 21:15 ). To go out free from the service of Christ is to go into slavery to self and sin.
Exodus 21:6 "Then his master shall ... pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him forever."
Our supreme example is the Lord Jesus who was completely committed to the Father's love, and said,
Psalm 40:8 "I delight to do Your will, O My God ..."
Psalm 40:6 "... My ears You have opened ... (pierced)"
Exodus 21:7-11 protect the rights of a Hebrew maidservant.

A girl sold for debt was to be treated as one betrothed to her master. Do you recognise that the Church is blood bought and therefore betrothed to Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27 )?
