1.4. DELIVERANCE FROM BONDAGE BY BLOOD

A nation is going through its final birthpangs. Their deliverance is to be by blood and power. The month that signifies a new beginning is Abib, the month of the "ripening of the ear". After the captivity it was called "Nisan" (Nehemiah 2:1; Esther 3:7 ).

Exodus 12:1-14 records the institution of the Passover - Points to Christ.

1 Corinthians 5:7 "Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us."

Lamb proclaimed.

John 1:29 "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

Lamb selected (Exodus 12:6 ).

Revelation 13:8 "... the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."

1 Peter 1:19 "... as of a lamb without blemish and without spot."

Lamb slain (Exodus 12:6 )

1 Corinthians 15:3 "... Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures."

Feeding on the substitutionary Lamb, all who ate deserved judgment - that judgment fell on the lamb.

2 Corinthians 5:21 "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us ..."

Feeding on the lamb whose blood was sprinkled to protect (Exodus 12:7 ). Blood on the doorposts and lintel, not on the threshold - never trample on the blood (Hebrews 10:29 ).

(Exodus 12:3 ). The promise of Acts 16:31. "You and your house." Feeding on the lamb roasted with fire (Exodus 12:9 ). The lamb that bore our judgment.

His HEAD

2 Peter 3:18 "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."

His LEGS

1 Peter 2:21 "... leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:"

His HEART

Romans 5:5 "... because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."

Feeding on the lamb in entirety:

1 Corinthians 11:24 "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you;"

His whole saving health. Eat the lamb with unleavened bread (Exodus 12:8 ). Self examination needs to take place (1 Corinthians 11:28 ). Feed on unleavened bread of sincerity and truth (1 Corinthians 5:8 ). Feed with bitter herbs (Exodus 12:8 ). Identification with His rejection and suffering. This is the key to reigning with Him (2 Timothy 2:12 ). Feeding on the lamb signifies freedom, unity, satisfaction (Exodus 12:4 ). According to appetite. Also signifies readiness. Preparedness is the attitude of Kingdom people.

Exodus 12:11 "... belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand."

1. Who gave the revelation contained in this chapter?
   • Do you come to the Word believing it to be the revelation of God to you?
   • Do you expose your heart, life and obedience to God's Word?
   • What did God the Spirit reveal to you in the written Word today?

2. Do you appreciate the meaning of the changing of the beginning of the year for the Israelites, to coincide with the Passover?
   • What is the beginning of your spiritual calendar, and that of every individual member of the Church?
   • What foundation revelation should be spoken to assembled believers?

3. What was required of every man of Israel, and when?
   • Is it enough to know that God's Lamb has been given, or is it essential to salvation that the Lamb be personally appropriated?

4. Why did the Israelites have to choose a lamb without blemish?
   • What truth presented about your Saviour, is substantiated in 1 Peter 2:22; 2 Corinthians 5:21?

   • What significance has feeding on the head, legs, heart of the lamb for you?
