1.2.2. A DELIVERER IS CALLED (Exodus 3:1 - 4:31)

BibleExodus 3:4 "So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am.""

God got his attention (Exodus 3:2-4 ). The flame of fire symbolised God's presence (Hebrews 12:29 ). It is an awesome God who calls and sends. The God who calls is the God of the supernatural. "the bush was not consumed" (Exodus 3:2 ).

The God of revelation called (Exodus 3:5-8).

A DELIVERER'S RESPONSE TO GOD'S CALL

BibleExodus 4:19 "And the LORD said to Moses in Midian, "Go, return to Egypt; for all the men who sought your life are dead.""

One who would require the submission of others, evidenced submission to his father-in-law (Exodus 4:18 ). A summary of his call is given, revealing God's strategy in fulfilling it (Exodus 4:19-23 ). Being sent, God's detailed plan must be enacted.

A DELIVERER ENDANGERED BY DISOBEDIENCE

BibleExodus 4:24 "And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the LORD met him and sought to kill him."

Moses failure to circumcise his son, probably owing to his wife's objection (Exodus 4:24-26 ), led to controversy with God that threatened his life and ministry. Failure to meet obligations to God, or to line up with God's specific word is threatening to a ministry.

A DELIVERER'S CALLED COMPANION

BibleExodus 4:27 "And the LORD said to Aaron, "Go into the wilderness to meet Moses." So he went and met him on the mountain of God, and kissed him."

Aaron needed to be just as sent as Moses, and to be obedient to the Lord. In serving Moses his obedience and accountability must be directly to the Lord. Moses, as leader, shared with Aaron "all the words of the LORD." (Exodus 4:28 ), not his own ego and personal will - but the Lord's commands.

A DELIVERER'S WORD BELIEVED

BibleExodus 4:31 "So the people believed; and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel and that He had looked on their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped."

Such leaders will develop faith in the people, by God's word and supernatural signs (Exodus 4:29-31 ).
