In considering some of the Holy Spirit's functions or activities applicable to the variety of roles He can assume in your business, it will become apparent that full co-operation from you is essential to receiving the fullest involvement of the divine Helper. The willingness of the given Holy Spirit to fill, control, and operate in you and what you do is abundantly clear, but are you willing?
Willing to acknowledge your need to be under His control (Ephesians 5:18 )? Willing to accept all the implications of self-surrender to Him (Galatians 2:20 )? Willing to appropriate the promise of His working by fath, in the same way you received the Spirit (Galatians 3:14 )? Willing to become His channel for Him to prosper others (John 7:37-39 )? Willing to obey His counsel and guidance implicitly as did Philip (Acts 8:29 )? Willing to own up and deal with known sin (1 John 1:9 )? Willing to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's tender feelings so as to please Him, not pain Him or quench Him (Ephesians 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19 )?
He will take up assignments for you and your business no other than Himself can fulfill.
Business plans and goals have to stand the test of the Holy Spirit. He will convict or convince, showing whether plans and goals are acceptable or achievable.
John 16:8 "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:"
When you were living in sin and part of the rejecting world, the Holy Spirit convicted and led to repentance and faith in Christ. In the same way, He, by ministry of conviction, becomes the settler of every plan as to whether it is approved by Him or not.
HE WILL CONVICT YOU BY OTHER DISCIPLES WHO ARE INDWELT AND FILLED BY HIMJesus made the promise that He would send the Holy Spirit to His disciples (John 16:7-8 ). The implication being that the Spirit convicts the world through those in whom He has come to dwell. One of the ways the Holy Spirit convicts about business intentions and procedures is through the standards and concerns of those who are living filled and controlled by Him.
THERE IS ALSO THE CONVICTION OF THE SPIRIT IN YOUR HEARTHe convinces of right and wrong that matches with the convictions of other respected spiritual believers. Further, the Spirit settles actions you can take by convincing you they are right in the sight of God, and His will, so that neither the process of attaining nor the attainment will be negative for you in the judgment of believers (2 Corinthians 5:10 ).
WHEN YOU ACCEPT THE SPIRIT'S ROLE AS SETTLER YOU ARE MAKING HIM CONTROLLERIt is not a matter of making Him a silent partner or one expected to rubber stamp all you do, it is a matter of you accepting the Spirit as Lord and taking action with His approval. Some want to consult the divine Helper, but do so, unwilling to be changed in their mind by Him, nor turn from the direction that He disapproves. They assume for themselves the role of controller - and tread the road of spiritual and natural disaster. Letting the Holy Spirit be the active settler of your plans and goals, the actual controller of your business raises a number of questions you need to answer.
Are you willing to be made willing to put your plans and actions under His scrutiny? Are you prepared to reject worldly and wrong business practices? Are you responsive to the Spirit in accepting His view of what is righteous? Are you running your business with accountability to God in mind? Do you think the Holy Spirit will easily let you get away with wrong? Does your relationship with the Holy Spirit as controller bring any change to your ideas of being successful in business?
It is inevitable when running a business, to be confronted with problems and difficulties. The Holy Spirit fulfils the work description as solver as no other can do.
HE SOLVES WITH A WORD OF WISDOMThere is no reason to be without wisdom for life in general - this is liberally supplied just for the asking (James 1:5 ). But there are occasions when you may need "a word of wisdom" for a specific situation or problem; it is named as a gift of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8 ). Greatly needed when you are persecuted or your business comes under attack because of your commitment to Christ. The promise of the Lord assures you when you are incapable of answering your adversaries, the divine Helper will give the word of wisdom to you.
Emergency in your stand for Christ can become the opportunity for the divine Solver to act (Luke 21:15 ). He can solve with a word of wisdom, organisation difficulties that arise, also give a word of wisdom to bring a problematic conference to satisfactory conclusion, as He did for church leaders (Acts 6:1-7. 15:13-21 ).
It is important to understand that the original says "a word", not the abiding deposit of supernatural wisdom, and that such a word is a showing forth of the Holy Spirit. In a given moment there is a brief utterance of a direct word of the divine Solver.
It is also interesting that a word of wisdom is given while recipients are busily engaged in familiar duties, and, after being the channel of the Spirit's wisdom, continue the work with normal wisdom ability. The solution of a problem does not come by self-efforts, wrestling, demanding, or any other fleshly effort. A word of wisdom is entirely the action and decision of the will of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:11 ).
HE SOLVES WITH A WORD OF KNOWLEDGE(1 Corinthians 12:8 ).
Dennis Bennett defines a word of knowledge as a "supernatural revelation of facts past, present, or future which were not learned through the efforts of the natural mind." The Holy Spirit And You, Page 155Bible examples of a word of knowledge include:
The prophet Elisha knew about Gehazi's greedy act and was able to expose him (2 Kings 5:20- 27 ). Jesus knew the evil thoughts of the scribes (Matthew 9:2-6 ). And the past conduct of the Samaritan woman (John 4:17-19 ). Peter was given a word of knowledge about Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-9 ). The divine Solver can expose the cause of the draining of the resources of the business - the evil schemes plotted against the company - the spiritual and natural needs of staff members - and expose deceit that makes problems and creates difficulties . The great Solver can, by a split second word of knowledge, reveal a mechanical problem. I know an inventor who was given a vision of a missing part of a mechanical device he was working on. I have heard testimonies of breakdown where a given word of knowledge has corrected the problem, and restarted production. R.G. LeTourneau said he received from the Lord the details of his first earthmoving equipment. When the Solver, the Holy Spirit intervenes in such a way there is usually a kingdom of God purpose behind His action. It is expected the special reason will be revealed to you by the Spirit.
HE SOLVES WITH A DISCERNING OF SPIRITS(1 Corinthians 12:10 ). There are three kinds of spirits: Divine - Satanic - Human. By this gift God's working is discerned, the activity of Satanic spirits is exposed. And what is motivating a human person or situation. When confronted with unusual problems and difficulties, the Holy Spirit can, through this gift, reveal whether the Lord is acting for His own purposes, or that you and your business is being attacked by Satanic forces, or some member of staff is acting out their own spite or manipulation for gain or position. The Solver by this gift can keep you from employing wrong people, when you and your business are committed to His will and purpose.
