3. A GIFTED BODY

KJV 1 Peter 4:10 "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."

KJV Romans 12:6 "Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, ..."

3.1. WE ARE MEMBERS OF A GIFTED BODY

All grace gifts are the bestowment of the risen and ascended Lord.

NKJV Ephesians 4:8 "Therefore He says: 'When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.'"

3.1.1. CHRIST HAS GIVEN A FIVEFOLD MINISTRY TO MATURE BODY MEMBERS AND THEIR GIFTS

KJV Ephesians 4:11-14 "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; "

Mark the function and purpose of these gift ministries, and notice that the body member ministries are to function for the "full maturity" of the whole body.

3.1.2. CHRIST HAS GIVEN A SUPERNATURAL MINISTRY TO EQUIP MEMBERS OF THE BODY (1 CORINTHIANS 12:7-11)

There are gifts of revelation:

-Word of wisdom
-Word of knowledge
-Discerning of spirits

There are gifts of power:

-Faith
-Gifts of healing
-Working of miracles

There are gifts of oral inspiration:

-Prophecy
-Different kinds of tongues
-Interpretation of tongues

As we shall see, some of these manifestations of the Holy Spirit are specifically aimed at body ministry. In the coming together at general gatherings of all the local body, the gifts of Ephesians 4:11 play an important role, and equip the saints to serve each other at the small group home fellowship level, where each one plays his Christ-given part in perfecting the whole body.
