1.1.2. SERVE, EMULATING HIS VOLUNTARY OBEDIENCE AND SACRIFICE

His Perfect Sacrifice Was Perfect Obedience To The Father's Will:

A prepared body was essential for His perfect sacrifice.

NKJV Hebrews 10:5 "... But a body You have prepared for Me. "

NKJV Galatians 4:4 "But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,"

-His incarnation was uniquely miraculous "sent forth His Son".
-His humility is real "made of a woman".
-His birth was without human father "of a woman".
-He came as the Second Adam giving life (Romans 5:12,14,17; 1 Corinthians 15:20-24 ).
-His sinlessness is essential to our salvation (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 3:18 ).
-His perfect sacrifice as the Lamb of God takes away sin (John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:19 ).

His Perfect Sacrifice Was Voluntary Obedience At Its Highest:

KJV Isaiah 6:8 "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me."

KJV Galatians 4:4 ".... God sent forth his Son, ..."

His Perfect Sacrifice Was Obedience To The Fullest Extent:

NKJV Hebrews 10:7 "Then I said, 'Behold, I have come - In the volume of the book it is written of Me - To do Your will, O God.'"

KJV Philippians 2:8 "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

His Perfect Sacrifice Did Perfectly Accomplish The Divine Will:

NKJV Hebrews 10:14 "For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."

His Perfect Sacrifice Was Acknowledged By Triumphant Resurrection And Glorious Exaltation (Philippians 2:9- 11)

Christ's own delighting in the Father's will is to be expressed in loving obedience by His people. Body life, in practical terms, is a self-forgetting, sacrificial outpouring of Christ's own loving care and serving for the common good. What joy to be an instrument of His lovingkindness. Glorification awaits His body members. We know that in the will of God "all things work together for good" for those who love God (Romans 8:28 ). Not only is body life good, God is working good together through our relationships in the Lord. God's intention for the called members of Christ's body is so sure it is spoken of as accomplished.

KJV Romans 8:30 "Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

One ultimate experience will be that of glorification with Him (Colossians 3:4; 1 John 3:2; Philippians 3:21 ).

Factually your serving in the body of Christ calls for surrender and sacrifice. In actuality it is the compulsion of His love in us (2 Corinthians 5:13- 15 ).

1.1.3. SERVE WITH HIS LOWLINESS OF MIND

Without Christ's example of self-humbling and obedience there could be no appeal to let the self-emptying mind of Christ be in each body member (Philippians 2:5-8 ). The description of the kind of body unity for which grace has prepared us, is presented in Philippians 2:1-2.

It is a unity that knows the warmth of:

-Consolation in Christ
-Constant love in Christ
-Continuing fellowship of the Spirit
-Considerate affection in Christ
-Calculated acts of mercy
-Commitment to Christlikeness
-Channelling the same love
-Coordinated in one mind

There are things that disrupt the unity of the body, which must be avoided by practising His lowliness of mind.

NKJV Philippians 2:3 "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, ..."

The word 'eritheia' is translated "selfish ambitions" (Philippians 2:3 ). "Self-seeking" (Romans 2:8 ). "Factions" (2 Corinthians 12:20 NIV ). Body life needs to be protected from selfish contention for position and power. Body members need to be kept from selfishly seeking to be served, with no thought at all of serving others. Body life, subjected to "factions" (NIV), or "contentions" (NKJV), can become infected with jealousies, uncontrolled anger, insistence on selfish goals, assassination of the good name of others (Romans 12:20 ). Such groups have succumbed to fleshly life.

All these destructive things can be avoided by having Jesus central in your thinking, attitudes and conduct which is by living your whole life in the Holy Spirit. The positive evidence of humility of mind is modest thinking of ourselves, and readiness to recognise, by commending the gifting and excelling of another.

NKJV Philippians 2:3 "... but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself."

The grace of lowliness of mind will pervade body life with peace. In practice it is love putting the interests of others first.

NKJV Philippians 2:4 "Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. "

It is accepted that care will be taken to benefit personally through the blessings of body life, but the more excellent way to abundant blessing is to prioritise the good of the other members and do all you can to further their spiritual prosperity. Healthy body life requires that each body member responds to the appeal to let the self-emptying mind of Christ motivate and control us in our body relationships (Philippians 2:5 ). Living out His unselfishness and humility will bring exceeding joy to each one participating in the local expression of the Lord's body, of which they are a part.
