7.3 A SPECIAL CALL (1 Thessalonians 5:25)

1 Thessalonians 5:25 "Brethren, pray for us".

Those who know the power of prayer are always grateful for the prayers of others.

James 5:16 "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

We are to pray for one another - all for all - both the mature and the immature need prayer.

7.4 A SALUTATION COMMANDED (1 Thessalonians 5:26)

1 Thessalonians 5:26 "Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss".

This principle is expressed in a warm handshake today. The teaching is that as members of God's family we should greet one another warmly. We need to keep a warm, spiritual home for the saints.

7.5 A SOLEMN CHARGE (1 Thessalonians 5:27)

1 Thessalonians 5:27 "I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren."

It could be claimed that Paul believed his letter to be inspired of the Holy Spirit. That we know to be the case. Therefore, as with the rest of God's Word it is to be faithfully read and taught publicly and privately. It is the Word of God for us, to be obeyed by us.

7.6 A SUPPLY CLAIMED (1 Thessalonians 5:28)

1 Thessalonians 5:28 "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."

This is more than a fitting conclusion to the letter - it is a reminder that there is a constant supply of grace by which to live a consistent christian life - a supply that can always be claimed "in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16 ). Till Jesus comes - Amen - so be it.

QUESTIONS FOR GROUP INTERACTION

  1. Do you believe that it is those who know the power of prayer by personal experience, who are grateful for the prayers of others?

  2. What would be an acceptable way of greeting one another today?
    • Do you take personally this charge of the apostle to read this epistle?

  3. Do you glory in the constant supply of grace that enables you to live right for the Lord Jesus till He comes?
